Meet The Practice

Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation Plastic Surgery group is made up of five Plastic Surgeons. The group provides the most technically advanced and innovative procedures, with an emphasis on cosmetic facial and body surgery. The surgeons also perform state of the art reconstructive, micro, and hand Surgery.

All five surgeons have affiliation with Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University to provide outstanding facilities and resources to deliver comprehensive and innovative care. The group is recognized worldwide for numerous contributions to Plastic Surgery. Members of the practice have been recognized as “Top Doctors”, with their work highlighted in many Chicago and National news sources. A licensed Aesthetician is available for all before and after surgery care, providing the most complete patient experience. Neil Anthony Fine, M.D.

Neil Fine, MD FACS is a Board-Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and Associate Professor of Surgery at Northwestern. An honors graduate of Univ. of Nevada and a Regents Scholar at UCLA School of Medicine, Dr. Fine went on to do his general surgery and plastic surgery training at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He did additional training in aesthetic surgery at the Manhattan Eye and Ear Institute in New York.

Dr. Fine has the high distinction of being an Examiner of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has also been a leader and educator for other plastic surgeons through his role on numerous panels and committees for the American Society of Plastic Surgery, American College of Surgeons and American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery. He has published widely on breast reconstruction and other cutting-edge aspects of plastic and aesthetic surgery and is considered an international innovator of endoscopic plastic surgery.

Dr. Fine's practice includes cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, aesthetic surgery, and complex reconstructive surgery. He believes in integrating technical finesse and a keen aesthetic judgment to clinical problems both simple and complex and is widely known for his dedication to his patients.

Gregory Dumanian, M.D.

Dr. Gregory Dumanian, a native Chicagoan, graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College, and trained at the finest medical programs in the country. After graduating with honors from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, he completed a five-year residency in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He followed this with three years of plastic surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the premier plastic surgery programs in the country for reconstructive surgery. He then completed a fellowship in hand surgery in Baltimore, Maryland at the Curtis Hand Center.

Dr. Dumanian is board certified in general surgery, plastic surgery, as well as hand surgery. He currently holds the position of Associate Professor of Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and also operates at Children's Memorial Hospital and the Chicago Shriner's Hospital for Children. His expertise in peripheral nerve surgery has led to a joint appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery.

Dr. Dumanian combines excellent training with a caring and attentive bedside manner. He performs a variety of cutting edge procedures in breast reconstruction, abdominal wall reconstruction, and hand and wrist surgery. His groundbreaking work in restoring limb function was recently showcased on the Learning Channel. He also performs all types of aesthetic surgery, including liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast surgery, and skin resection for patients with significant weight loss.

John Kim, M.D.

John YS Kim, MD is a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon and a faculty member at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation.

He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College, and received his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Arts in English degrees from Stanford University. Dr. Kim was also a three year Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellow.

He completed an integrated Plastic Surgery residency in the Michael E. Debakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and went on to do advanced fellowship training at the University of California Los Angeles.

Dr. Kim performs the full spectrum of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery including: cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, body contouring surgery after massive weight loss, complex microvascular and upper extremity surgery, facial rejuvenation surgery and office procedures (restylane, botox, dermabrasion, liposuction, mini-facelifts).

Dr. Kim's work and expertise has been featured on television, radio, newspaper, and the internet including ABC, Chicago Sun-Times, and emedicine.com. He has published widely in specialty journals and textbooks and holds international patents on novel medical device inventions. Dr. Kim also serves on several national committees for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and is an editor-at-large for Plastic Surgery News. A lifelong devotee to the arts, Dr. Kim's practice philosophy is to elegantly and judiciously integrate an artist's vision with fine technical precision.

Thomas A. Mustoe , M.D., FACS

Thomas A. Mustoe, MD, FACS is a board certified Plastic Surgeon, by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is also board certifiend by the American Board of Otolaryngology, having completed residencies in both specialties. Dr. Mustoe received both his college and medical degrees from Harvard University with honors. He completed his otolaryngology and plastic surgery residencies at Harvard teaching hospitals (Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Brigham and Women's Hospitals). He has coauthored more than 200 articles and book chapters, and lectured nationally and internationally on subjects of facial cosmetic and breast surgery, techniques of aesthetic surgery and abdominoplasty. He has been named to multiple best doctor lists locally and nationally, and has appeared numerous times on television. He currently serves on mutiple editorial boards for plastic surgery and surgical journals, and is a scientific advisor to the FDA and previously to National Cancer Institute. He is currently Professor and Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Northwestern University. Dr. Mustoe clinical practice is focused entirely on aesthetic surgery. Robert D. Galiano, M.D.

Robert D. Galiano, MD, is a board certified Plastic Surgeon, by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Northwestern. Dr. Galiano graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree In Biology and English Literature from Washington University, and then completed his plastic surgery training at the world-renowned Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University Medical Center.

Dr. Galiano is a dedicated surgeon-scientist committed to advancing the scientific basis of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery, and has won numerous awards and honors for his scientific and clinical research. He has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters. Furthermore, Dr. Galiano is an editor of the best-selling textbook Current Therapy in Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Galiano practices plastic surgery in a compassionate manner, with an eye towards achieving a natural result that complements the patient’s quest for self-enrichment. He performs the full spectrum of aesthetic surgery procedures of the face and body, with an emphasis on breast enhancement, short scar breast reduction, liposuction, skin reducing procedures in massive weight loss patients, laser surgery, cosmetic fillers and Botox, complex scar revisions, primary and revisional rhinoplasties, and eyelid procedures. His reconstructive practice is focused on complex wound care, limb salvage, cancer defects, microsurgery, facial surgery, and breast reconstruction.

Cindy Hinkle

Cindy Hinkle is an experienced medical aesthetician. Ms. Hinkle has undergone extensive training in both Dermatology and Plastic Surgery. She is an expert in microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser treatments, and is a skilled camouflage make-up artist.

She counsels a wide range of patients in pre and post operative medical skin care treatments. In addition, Ms. Hinkle provides exceptional knowledge and use of prescription agents to treat acne, fine lines, wrinkles, and sun-damaged skin. She has been featured on CBS and has been referenced in several newspapers. She has a strong commitment to her patients' well-being and is devoted to patient education. Ms. Hinkle has developed an effective approach to skin care and provides the highest quality patient care.
